Ohio University – Southern Campus – Equine Studies Program

Ohio University Southern Campus is located in Ironton, Ohio, and is a four-year public college offering associate and bachelor’s degree. For those students seeking a degree in equine studies, OU Southern offers an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Equine Studies. This program has been developed to provide students with the knowledge and skills that are required to have a long and successful career as a professional trained in the equine industry.

Students who successfully complete the degree will have an appreciation and understanding of the horse through courses in anatomy and physiology, and through participation in the psychological process of hands working with horses. Students also know how to care, nurture and maintain a horse so he will be able to reach their full potential. Besides learning about the horse itself, students will learn the legal and ethical issues facing the equine industry on a daily basis. Students are also introduced into the commercial aspect of the equine industry, along with the training. Students also learn communication skills that are necessary to succeed in today’s equine industry.

SUNY Cobleskill Equine Studies Programs

SUNY (State University of New York) Cobleskill is located in Cobleskill, New York. University College is a public four enrolls about 2,500 students and is located about 40 minutes southwest of Albany. The school offers several programs of Equine Studies and currently has about 75 students who are pursuing a career in horses. Students can earn either an associate or bachelor’s degree in an intimate atmosphere at the Equestrian Center.
